Discover More Card Review

by Redeeming Riches on February 17, 2012

Most credit cards you should ignore due to their lack of cash back benefits.  The Discover More Card is not the case.  Whether you’re looking for a card to transfer a balance to or a card that offer 5% cash back on purchases, the Discover More Card might just be the card for you.

Not only does this card offer a wealth of benefits, the Discover More Card is recognized at almost every retailer.  With this card in your wallet, you can be sure you will be able to make purchases.

What are the benefits?

Hmm, where do I start?  Well, first off this card is jam packed full of cash back benefits.  Along-side no annual fee, this card is a real winner.

Check out some of the additional benefits:

  • Earn 5% cash back in rotating categories
  • Unlimited cash rewards
  • Rotating categories so you can maximize your spending depending on the quarter
  • Discover’s exclusive online shopping mall where you can earn up to 20% cash back
  • Increased incentive to redeem point for gifts cards instead of cash
  • No yearly limit on rebates
  • No annual fee, can you say hooray?
  • 0% fraud liability to prevent unauthorized purchases
  • Email and text reminders to ensure that you pay your card off in time
  • 0% APR for balance transfers
  • 0% purchase APR for the first 15 months

Various versions of the card

The Discover More Card is an example of a multi-faceted brand.  Although there is the basic entry card, there are multiple versions, check them out:

Discover More Card: This is your typical Discover More Card but with the ability to make transfers and purchases at 0% APR for 15 months.

Discover More Card Balance Transfer Fee: Additional benefit of 0% APR on balance transfers for 18 months while still getting 0% APR on all of your purchases for 6 months.

Discover More Card No Balance Transfer Fee: With this card you’ll receive 0% APR on your balance for up t0 12 months.

What about expiring rewards points and cash back?

Discover is not a stingy company.  When it comes to your rewards points you can take as long as you want to redeem them because they never expire.  This is the case as long as your account is never closed and you stay active for at least 18 months.  This shouldn’t be hard to do anyways…

Yes, there are a couple drawbacks

With any credit card, there will be some negatives.  Although the follow may seem like minor drawbacks, they are things any potential card holder should be aware of.

  • If you are going abroad, this card will not be for you.  There is a 2% fee for all purchases made in other countries.
  • Another drawback is their tiered cash back program.  Although the cash back program is very alluring, their tiered system takes into effect only after you’ve made $3,000 in total purchases.

I recommend this card

As long as you’re paying the balance off each and every month, this card is for you!  With a lucrative cash back program and a multitude of benefits, the Discover More Card gets an A+ in my book.
