Creative Ways You Can Earn Extra Money Over The Weekend

by Redeeming Riches on April 9, 2012

Some of your friends are going on a road trip in a few weeks. If everyone contributes, you can stay in a fabulous hotel for the week for around $200 per person. However, you’ve just checked your bank statement and that amount might as well be a million dollars when it comes to the current condition of your checking account. Therefore, the only way that you can go on vacation is to find some quick ways to make some cash over the next couple of weekends.

It’s not as impossible as you think. Check out some of these money-making ideas.

Babysit, dog sit or plant sit

These days, you might be surprised how difficult it is for a lot of people to find any of the three that will be responsible, reliable and affordable. If you’re willing to give over a Friday or Saturday night, Care.com is a website that connects babysitters to parents (even those who need a babysitter in as little as 24-48 hours’ notice). When it comes to dog sitting (or walking), there are people that can make as much as $15-30 per hour. And to water a person’s plants? Well, usually if someone actually gives you a key to their house, they probably want you to check in on that too. Send a message out on Facebook or Twitter to let people know that you’re interested in caring for their pets or homes for the weekend. You never know who you might be helping that’s in a bind.

Sell some stuff

There are actually a few ways that you can go about this. If you have some gently used designer clothes, stores like Plato’s Closet will purchase the ones that they like on the spot (you might want to call ahead to let them know what you have to spare the commute if they’re not interested). There are also local used book stores and electronic shops that will do the same thing. It’s definitely worth looking into. However, you can bypass the search by actually posting some of the valuables that you no longer want on websites like Craigslist and eBay. With eBay, you’ll need to set up an account. With both sites, the more descriptive the item and the clearer the picture, the greater the possibility is that you’ll land a reputable customer. And then, there’s always the “tried and true” reliability of hosting a good old garage sale. If you’re in San Francisco and you’ve been to any San Francisco garage sales, then you might recall that it’s an awesome way to make a few extra bucks. Just make sure to check with your county to see what the guidelines are when it comes to holding on. Each city is different.

Freelance

The sky is the limit when it comes to this option thanks to websites like oDesk.com, Freelancer.com, Craigslist.org, FreelanceWriting.com, ProBlogging.com, Shuttershock.com, Flixya.com and a host of others. One thing that these websites have in common is that they post contracted jobs for everything from writing and web design to photography (Shuttershock) and video (Flixya) where people will pay you for your services. If you’re patient enough in your search, you can literally look for a job on Thursday, be hired to do it on Friday and paid through PayPal once the project is completed. Yes, thanks to the Internet, you can make some quick money all from the comfort from your own home. It doesn’t get much better than that!
