Restore Your Money – Renew Your Mind

Restore Your Money – Renew Your Mind

Ever step into a blog and wonder what it’s all about – what makes them tick – or what’s their core message?

I have.  I like to go to the about page right away and get a sneak peek into the mind’s eye of the author.

The reason for this post is to give you that peek into what this blog is all about.  I’ve updated and explained this in some detail on the about page, but I wanted to give a full post to help visitors understand what’s actually going on here.

The Idea of Redemption

Redeem literally means “to buy back” or “restore”.  Redemption is a theme found quite often in the Bible.  What God did through Jesus on the cross was return us back to the way things were supposed to be.  He redeemed us so that we could have a right relationship with Him.

When it comes to our money – God had an original design for the way it should be made, handled, spent, saved and given.  Because we are all sinful we’ve fractured the way it’s supposed to be.

This site is created to help redeem back what God’s original design was for our money.

Restoring Your Money

My goal at Redeeming Riches is to give practical tips, insights and advice to help you become a better manager of your money.

This is known as stewardship.  God has called us to be good stewards of the resources we have.  We fail at this many times – so my aim is to help restore your money to a place where it is being stewarded under God’s design.

We need relevant information to help us make good financial decisions and become better stewards.  So, what you’ll find to help you restore your money is sometimes plain old personal finance tips.  Other times you’ll find a post that deals with the psychology behind our money – or why we do the things we do.

Not all of the content in these posts are going to be inherently “Christian”.  In other words – some posts will be strictly a “how to guide” or a “5 tips” kind of post that are more practical than spiritual.

All of it, however, is designed to inform you to help you make better financial decisions so as to become a better steward.

Renewing Your Mind

God calls us not to be conformed to the pattern of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds (Romans 12:2).

A big part of becoming a better steward is the renewing of our mindsets and faulty views we have about our money.  Some of these faulty views include:

  • Money buys lasting happiness
  • Money brings comfort and security and that’s really what I need
  • Money is evil
  • Money is mine, so I can do whatever I want with it

These are just some of the thoughts we have that need to be renewed.

The bottom line is that God is very concerned with how we handle our money and steward the resources he’s given to us.

The mission of Redeeming Riches is to help us think biblically and practically about our money so we can redeem back the misguided views that wealth leads to happiness, restore the way we handle our finances so we become the stewards God has called us to be and also renew the correct perspective that God himself is the source of lasting joy.

My hope and prayer is that through this little site, God can help redeem our failures, restore our finances and renew our faith.

Extreme Makeover: Blog Edition

I’m excited about the transformation that Redeeming Riches has undergone.  This has been a collaborative effort with Joe Porter from JP Web Design.  He’s been a HUGE help in getting this site live!

Joe has done an outstanding job with creating this site, the logo and many of the features you see.  He’s made this whole transition very easy and has been patient enough to answer each and every question (which can get annoying when a non-techie guy is asking basic questions to a techie guy) =)

Same Great Taste!

If you were a regular visitor to the old Redeeming Riches site, rest assured, you will still find the same content just with a different look and feel.

Getting my own domain name and creating a unique site has been something I’ve wanted to do for a while and am finally taking the plunge.

Why The Change?

I started blogging several months ago with a free WordPress site just to see if it was something I enjoyed and if anyone would actually read my content.

To my surprise, I’ve built a decent following and have had some great feedback along the way.

The downside to a free WordPress site is that there is very limited functionality and creativity allowed.

So, I decided to buy a domain (redeemingriches.com), pay to have the site totally redesigned and have it hosted.  This opens up a ton of creative options and things I can do with the site that I’ve been wanting to do for a while.

One thing you will notice is the use of ads.  These are designed to hopefully offer the readers some good potential resources and services and also to help offset the cost of running and maintaining the site.  If you find anything offensive, or you feel shouldn’t be there please let me know.

What Redeeming Riches is About

I revamped and updated my About page so I won’t rehash everything I wrote in there other than the mission statement:

Redeeming Riches exists to think biblically and practically about our money so we can redeem back the misguided views that wealth leads to happiness; restore the way we handle our finances to become the stewards God has called us to be; and also renew the correct perspective that God himself is the source of lasting joy.

To put it simply I hope Redeeming Riches will Restore Your Money &  Renew Your Mind!
